USCG buoy tender Mesquite

This section contains photos of the Mesquite, a USCG buoy tender that ran aground December 4, 1989 off of Keweenaw point. They left the boat there for the weekend, hoping to refloat her later. Over the weekend a storm came in and ripped the boat to shreds, Rocking the hull over the rocks for 3 days. The Coast Guard determined the boat a total loss. Next summer she was sunk in Bete Grise Bay in 100 ft of water. Photos by B. Gilreath
